The Old King House | 1899 – 732 E Cemetery Ave, Chenoa, IL

A Landmark, Reimagined.

732 East Cemetery Avenue. Built 1899.

A History of Quality. A Future of Luxury.

Built in 1899, 732 East Cemetery Avenue has long been a cornerstone of Chenoa history. Its very foundation, constructed from massive, perfectly preserved boulders, speaks to an era of unparalleled craftsmanship. The original fireplace stands as a testament to this legacy—a local fireplace inspector recently remarked he had ‘never seen such a well-built fireplace,’ a true sign that its builders were people of means and vision.

Today, that vision has been reborn through a complete renovation. This was not merely an update, but a total transformation. With all-new drywall, fresh paint on every surface, designer light fixtures, and new flooring throughout, the home feels brand new while retaining its historic soul.

Meet the Visionary.

The story behind the restoration from listing agent and designer, Tracy Lockenour.

Tracy Lockenour

What was your vision for this home?

“I have always loved the design of Victorian homes—the wrap-around porches, the beautiful turret, the ornate details. I dreamed of reclaiming one of these beauties for today. Rather than leave it stuck in the late 1800s, I wanted to make it a cornerstone of the community; a home that celebrates our history while elevating the value of a home everyone dreams of, with clean open spaces, cozy furnishings, and sunlight pouring in from every angle.”

What was the most challenging part of the restoration?

“This home had original knob and tube wiring. Finding an electrician willing to take on re-wiring a nearly 6000 sq ft historic home was almost impossible. We eventually found Matt Schmidgall of Sunrise Electric, who loves old homes. He made a fantastic plan and rewired the entire house, installed new electrical boxes, and even prepared the attic for future expansion. He was incredible.”

What is your favorite detail in the finished house?

“My favorite detail is that we were able to keep the charm and beauty of the Queen Anne Victorian while still modernizing the decor and finishes. It’s the perfect blend of historic character and modern luxury.”

A Town Born of Ambition.

The story of this home is inextricably linked to the story of Chenoa itself—a town founded on foresight at a crucial railroad crossroads.

The Birth of a Railroad Town

Founded in 1854 by Mathew T. Scott, Chenoa was strategically positioned at the anticipated intersection of the Chicago and Alton Railroad and the new Toledo, Peoria and Western line. Scott’s vision was to create a vital commercial hub for the highly productive agricultural region of Central Illinois.

A Tale of Two Towns

A fascinating rivalry defined Chenoa’s early days. While Scott developed the land west of the tracks, a former associate platted a competing townsite called “East Chenoa.” This home was built in East Chenoa, and the legacy of this dual founding is still visible in the town’s unique layout today.

An Enduring Landmark.

Built in 1899, this striking Queen Anne Victorian was a statement of prosperity. Its grand wraparound porch, intricate original woodwork, and distinguished pocket doors speak to the quality of its construction.
